Huskies slide by Capers 53-51

(HALIFAX,N.S.) - The CIS No. 5-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the visiting Cape Breton University Capers 53-51 in AUS women's basketball action Saturday night.

SMU's Katrina Murrell lead all scorers with 18 points on the night.

The Capers held the slightest lead after 10 minutes 15-14 before Saint Mary's used a 12-7 second quarter spurt and led 26-22 at half.

The third quarter saw the Huskies extend their lead to 43-34 after 30 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter saw the Capers outscore SMU 17-10 but the Huskies were able to hold on for a 53-51 win.

With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 5-0 in AUS play while Cape Breton falls to 2-4.

CBU was paced by Rasheeka Gunn with 18 points and Colleen Keane with 11 points.

Scoring for the Huskies were Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse with 11 points and six rebounds. Angelina Carvery had 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Laura Langille added five points and five boards.

Carlie Nugent had three points for Saint Mary's while Alexandra Smye, Emma Valikoski and Shanicka Wood each had two points apiece in the win.

Saint Mary's next taked to the court when they visit the Acadia Axewomen (0-6) Nov. 27 for a 6 p.m. game. 

The Capers will host the UNB Varsity Reds (4-2) Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. in a matchup worth four points in the AUS standings.
