UNB hosts AUS-RSEQ interlock cross country invitational

(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - Runners from the top-ranked university cross country team in Canada finished first and second in an AUS-RSEQ interlock event in Fredericton on Saturday. 

Yves Sikubwabo and Igor Bougnot, of the Laval Rouge et Or, finished first and second in the men's eight kilometre race, run through Fredericton's Odell Park. 

Sikubwabo beat his teammate by a little more than two seconds. 

Scott Donald, from StFX, was the top AUS finisher. He ran third overall. 

Michael Colford was the top Varsity Reds finisher. He placed 34th in the field of 129. 

Laval, which placed five runners in the top 10, earned top spot in the team competition. 

StFX, McGill, Dalhousie and Sherbrooke rounded out the top five. 

In the women's 6km race, Melanie Myrand, of McGill, was the winner. 

She beat unattached Ashley Ryer by just over two seconds. 

Aureli Dube-Lavoie, of Laval, finished third. 

Dalhousie's Sarah Myatt was the top AUS runner, finishing sixth. 

Rachel Bennett was the top finisher for the host Varsity Reds. She finished 68th in a field of 143. 

McGill took the team title on the women's side, with Dalhousie second, and StFX third.
