(MONCTON, N.B.) - John Kuto and Katie Robinson were the fastest runners at the annual Université de Moncton Cross Country Classic, in the Atlantic University Sport men's and women's runs, held on Saturday on the Moncton campus.

Kuto of the Saint Mary's University Huskies, registered a time of 26:19.10 on the 8km distance. He was ahead of StFX's Tate Bryden by just under 10 seconds and Dalhousie's Matt McNeil by 16. St. Francis Xavier was first overall in team competition followed by Dalhousie, New Brunswick, Saint Mary's and Moncton.

Katie Robinson of the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds finished first (23:23.10) before the Tigers' Maddy Crowel (23:26.80). Kayte Kowal of the Tigers was third, eight seconds later. Dalhousie took the team competition followed by New Brunswick, St. Francis Xavier, Acadia, Moncton and Saint Mary's.

Daniel Saucier was the fastest Aigles Bleus, in 27th position with a time of 31:37.00. There were 39 participants.

The top Aigles Bleues women runner was Kamylle Frenette, in 16th position, in a time of 25:36.40. There were 55 runners.

"The race went well for us," said the Aigles' women's team captain, Anouk Pelletier. "This was our third of the season, we know the strategy with two left. The hills were a challenge, but we found solutions and our team did well."

"This was a hard enough race with the hills," added Daniel Saucier. "We raced as a team and kept together to encourage one another. The worst was the flat surface between the two hills. We are satisfied with our results. I had a personal best time of under 32 minutes."

Moncton coach Jean-Marc Doiron was encouraged by the results. "The hills and the grass surface did not affect us that much," Doiron said. "This is encouraging, our results are much better after four weeks."

The next AUS cross country invitational meet will be hosted by StFX in Antigonish on Saturday.
