(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) - The Dalhousie Tigers handed the Memorial Sea-Hawks a 3-0 loss in AUS men's volleyball at the Field House on Saturday night.
Set scores were 27-25, 25-16, 26-24.
Despite a win after just three sets, the Memorial Sea-Hawks made the first ranked Tigers work for the victory.
The first set saw the Sea-Hawks open the game with a six-point run. At the technical time out, Memorial still led by six. Dalhousie continued to trail Memorial but closed the gap just as the Sea-Hawks were one point from taking the set. The Tigers came back to win it 27-25.
Memorial struggled to regain composure in the second set. Dalhousie made quick work of the Sea-Hawks, taking the second 25-16.
The Sea-Hawks came back strong in the third with a 7-1 run to open the set. The two teams found themselves tied at 24 points, but Dalhousie took the win after two errors cost Memorial the set.
Second-year Scott Bailey (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Tigers attack with 14 kills, followed closely by veteran Bryan Duqette (St. Thomas, Ont.). Fourth-year setter Jonathan MacDonald (Halifax, N.S.) was the Subway player of the game after contributing 40 assists and 10 digs.
Second-year right side Tyler Rowsell (St. John's, N.L.) led the Sea-Hawks with nine kills, two service aces and a block in the loss. Fifth-year libero Brad Jolliffe (Clarenville, N.S.) had a team-high nine digs.
Jolliffe and fellow fifth-year, Kendal Schmidt were recognized for their contribution to the Memorial athletics program during a post-game ceremony.
