Acadia hosts Jack Scholz invitational swim meet to kick off AUS season

(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers dominated the opening of the swim season at the Jack Scholz Swim Meet hosted by Acadia University.

The Tigers captured 32 of 38 events over the day and a half meet in Wolfville and won the men's and women's team standings for the eighth year in a row since the return of the Scholz Meet.

Multiple medal winners included Dalhousie's women including Alexis Bergman who won gold in the 400m Individual Medley, 50m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke.

Phoebe Lenderyou had a Dalhousie high four medals including 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley. Lenderyou qualified for the CIS championship in February in the 200m Backstroke.

Lise Cinq-Mars collected 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly events. Claire Yurkovich pulled in two gold medals in 50m and 800m Freestyle.

On the men's side, the Tigers multiple event winners included Alec Karlsen's wins in 400m Individual Medley, 200m and 100m Butterfly, while Gavin Dyke had wins in 100m and 1500m Freestyle events.

The biggest surprise of the Scholz meet was first year Acadia swimmer Brett Liem who qualified for the CIS championship with a winning time of 25.76 in the 50m FreeStyle in Saturdays sessions. Liem also captured gold in 50m Butterfly in the same first session.

The Mount Allison Mounties' Justin LeBlanc captured wins in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events while Mountie Geraint Berger added a gold in the 200m Freestyle.

In the six relay events over the three sessions, the Tigers captured gold in 200m women's and men's Freestyle; women's 200m Medley Relay and women's and men's 400m Freestyle Relay. The host Axemen team grabbed a win in the 200m Medley Relay.
