Capers top Axemen 5-1 as Greedy enters AUS record books

(SYDNEY, N.S.) - In a battle for second place in the AUS standings, the Cape Breton University Capers rolled past the visiting Acadia Axemen 5-1 in men's soccer action Sunday at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex on the CBU campus.

The win, their fifth consecutive, improved the Capers to 6-2-1 on the year while the Axemen fell to 5-4-1.

Fifth-year striker Ian Greedy played his way into the AUS record books during the victory. The Cole Harbour, N.S. native had a pair of goals in the ninth and 36th minutes giving him seven for the season and 41 for his career, making him just the fifth player in AUS history to score 40 career goals.

AUS scoring leader Justin Maheu also scored twice for the Capers, finding the back of the net in the 25th and 43rd minutes. Maheu now has 12 goals on the year.

Kwabe Boateng rounded out the Capers attack in the 64th minute.

Khalefah Alenazi broke the shutout bid, scoring for Acadia in the 84th minute.

John Lines and Ethan MacInnis comined to make nine saves in the Capers goal for the win.

Nigel Goodwin made four saves for Acadia.

The Axemen next take to the field Friday, Oct. 17 when they host the Dalhousie Tigers at Raymond Field at 7:15 p.m.

Cape Breton will visit Saint Mary's the following day at 3:15 p.m.
