UNB men top CBU 2-0 in regular season soccer action

(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - UNB's men's soccer team defeated the Cape Breton Capers 2-0 today at home on BMO Field.

The first goal came early in the game. The Varsity Reds' Marcus Lees scored at 3:38, his first goal of the season.

But a lot of time would pass before fans in the crowd would see another. Victor Karosan posted the second goal for UNB at 74:29.

The Capers may have left the field scoreless, but they put in their fair share of dominating play, controlling much of the game until Karosan's goal.

UNB head coach Miles Pinsent says the game was a lot closer than scoreboard might make it out to be.

"I think [in the second half] our guys stopped initiating play," he said. "That's a dangerous thing to get into especially against a side that has the talent that Cape Breton does."

AUS Subway player of the game was awarded to UNB's #18 Alexandre Haiart.

The Varsity Reds are now 3-0 in regular season play and tied with York University for second place in the CIS rankings. They host Acadia at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Cape Breton will play Moncton at the same time.
