Aigles Bleus win fourth-straight to lead men's hockey standings

In Week 4 of AUS men's hockey action, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus earned their fourth-straight victory, allowing them to rise up the AUS men's hockey standings.

The Aigles Bleus skated into the StFX Keating Centre Friday night and edged the StFX X-Men 7-3 in Antigonish. Nathael Roy and Mika Cyr each scored two goals apiece for the visiting Aigles Bleus, while Edouard St-Laurent, Alexandre Couture, and Thomas Cusson also found the back of the net in the win. Goals from StFX in the loss came from Matthew Struthers (PP), Liam Hawel and Matthew Philip (PP). Roy took home first star and Subway player of the game honours with two goals and an assist on the night. X-Men forward Struthers was the second star with a goal and two assists, and Moncton's Cyr was the third star for his two-goal effort.

They then edged the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 in a shootout Saturday evening in Halifax. Just over eight minutes into the second period, Olivier-Luc Hashe scored his second goal of the year off a rebound to put the first point on the board. Jarrett Baker tied it up for the Tigers midway through the third period which pushed the game into overtime. During the shootout, both Cyr and Jeremy Michel found the back of the net for Moncton, with only Baker finding the back of the net for the Tigers, to give Moncton the victory.

The U Sports No. 4 ranked UNB Reds also earned their fourth-straight victory this weekend, first playing to an explosive 10-1 win over the Tigers Friday night. UNB goals came from Connor Hall (3), Brady Gilmour, Simon Pinard (PP), Jason Willms (PP), Cody Morgan (PP), Benjamin Corbeil (PP) and Cole MacKay (2), with Pickard's power play tally being the only goal for Dalhousie in the loss. Hall's three-goal night earned him Subway player of the game honours.

The Reds then handed the X-Men a 5-2 loss on Saturday night at the Keating Centre in Antigonish. Jason Willms scored the game-winner 12 minutes into the third period to break a 2-2 deadlock between the conference rivals then the Reds added a couple of empty net goals in the win. Other UNB goals came from Austen Keating, Benjamin Corbeil (2) and Macauley Carson, while Matthew Struthers found the back of the net twice for StFX in the loss.

The UPEI Panthers also earned their fourth-straight win, allowing them to climb the standings after starting the season with a 1-3 record. 

The Panthers edged the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-1 Friday night, with Panthers goals coming from Robert-Tye Rice and Drake Pilon. Saint Mary's lone goal in the loss came from Andrew Coxhead (SH).

UPEI then shutout the Acadia Axemen 3-0 Saturday night in Charlottetown. Darian PilonRyan Stepien and TJ Shea each found the back of the net in the win, while goaltender Jonah Capriotti turned aside 21 shots for his first shutout of the season.

Despite their loss to the Panthers, the Huskies split their games this week, edging the Axemen 3-2 in overtime Wednesday night. Saint Mary's forward Bradey Johnson scored the overtime winner with 1:58 remaining to give the Huskies the victory. Goals in regulation came from Saint Mary's Jaxon Bellamy and Andrew Coxhead (PP) and Acadia's Adam McMaster and Liam Kidney.
