The UNB Reds winning streak continues as they earned a weekend sweep to record their eighth-straight victory to give them a 15-1 record on the season.
The Reds started the weekend visiting the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville Friday evening, playing to a 5-1 victory. UNB got a pair of goals from Subway First Star of the Game James Phelan to help them on the way to their victory. Other UNB tallies came from Samuel Dove-McFalls (SH), Nicolas Guay (PP) and Jason Willms, with Eric Henderson scoring a powerplay tally for the lone goal for Acadia in the game.
UNB scored three times in the second period on route to a 4-1 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday. Dove-McFalls was named Subway Player of the Game, leading the Reds with two goals and one assist. Guay and Joe Gatenby also earned tallies in the win, with Andrew Coxhead getting on the board with a powerplay goal for Saint Mary's.
The StFX X-Men remain in second in the men's hockey standings, splitting their weekend games. The X-Men first travelled to Halifax Wednesday night to take on the Dalhousie Tigers, where the home team doubled the visiting X-Men 4-2. Reilly Pickard had 22 saves for the Tigers and was the Subway Player of the Game. Dalhousie goals came from Brett Crossley (SH), Derek Gentile, Dillon Boucher and Campbell Pickard, with Zack Trott and Sam Allison (SH) finding the back of the net for StFX.
The X-Men bounced back in a big way Friday night, earning an 8-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers at home. Matthew Phillip was named first star and Subway player of the game with a pair of goals and an assist for the X-Men. Other StFX goals came from Josh Nelson, Jacob Hudson, Zack Trott, Liam Hawel, Connor Roberts and Adam Holwell. UPEI tallies came from TJ Shea, Carson MacKinnon and Drake Pilon.
The Panthers turned things around Saturday night, edging the Tigers 4-3 in Charlottetown. Troy Lajeunesse led the way with two goals, allowing UPEI to snap their four-game slide. Teammates Pilon and MacKinnon also scored in the win, while Aiden Jamieson, Jarrett Baker and Barret Kirwin (PP) found the back of the net for Dalhousie. Despite the loss, Dalhousie goaltender Connor Hicks made an impressive 51 saves on the night.
The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus visited the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night, skating to a 5-3 victory. Remy Anglehart finished with a hattrick on the night to lead the Aigles Bleus to victory, with teammates Maxime Boudreau and Nathael Roy adding tallies in the win. Saint Mary's goals came from Joel Bishop, Sam King and Mitchell Balmas (PP).
Moncton then hosted the Axemen Saturday evening, where the visitors earned a 4-3 win. Acadia was led by Jack Flaman who scored twice on the night, with Mason McCarty and Eric Henderson adding goals for the Axemen. Vincent Deslauriers led the Aigles Bleus in the loss, finishing with two goals on the night while Anglehart scored a powerplay tally for his fourth goal of the weekend.
