Tigers earn sweep in Week 5 action to move into 3rd in men's hockey standings

The Dalhousie Tigers topped the Acadia Axemen 6-3 Wednesday night, then skated to a 6-4 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night, allowing the Tigers to move into third place in the AUS men's hockey action.

The Tigers kicked off week 5 by snapping a three-game losing skid with a 6-3 win over the Axemen. Despite falling 3-1 early in the game, Dalhousie scored five unanswered goals, including two from Subway First Star of the Game Derek Gentile, who netted the eventual game-winner with 0.9 seconds to play in the second and added an insurance marker at the start of the third. Other Dalhousie goals came from Darien Kielb, Barret Kirwin, Josh Wainman and Chandler Yakimowicz (EN), while Acadia goals came from Johnny Corneil (2) and Mason McCarty.

Dalhousie then went on to top the Huskies 6-4 Friday night, with Gentile earning AUS Subway Player of the Game honours once again as he scored two goals, and assisted on another. Dalhousie tallies came from Logan Johnston, Liam Peyton, Wainman and Kirwin, while Saint Mary's goals came from Cedric Ralph, Bradey Johnson, Jonathan Hampton (SH) and Nathan Dunkley (PP).

The StFX X-Men earned their fourth straight victory, kicking off the weekend with a 5-3 win over the Axemen. Matthew Philip earned AUS Subway Player of the Game honours, finishing the night with a hattrick. Other StFX goals came from Adam Holwell (PP) and Josh Nelson (PP), with Garrett McFadden, Johnny Corneil and Peyton Hoyt finding the back of the net for Acadia in the loss.

Saturday night, the X-Men topped the Huskies in a high-scoring game with a 7-5 win. Matthew Struthers received the first star and AUS Subway player of the game, finishing the night with an impressive four goals and an assist, while teammate Liam Hawel scored twice and Matthew Philip added a powerplay tally in the win. On the Saint Mary's side, Mitchell Balmas scored a hattrick while Andrew Coxhead (PP) and Cedric Ralph also earned goals in the loss.

The UNB Reds extended their record to 9-1 over the weekend, skating to a 7-1 win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus Friday night. James Phelan scored twice and added an assist, and Brady Gilmour recorded four assists to lead the Reds to victory. Nicolas Guay, Isaac Nurse, Tyler Boland, Thomas Casey and Samuel Dove-McFalls also earned tallies in the win, while Nathael Roy scored the lone tally for Moncton.

The Reds then earned a 3-2 shootout win over the UPEI Panthers Saturday night, Griffen Outhouse stopped all shots in the shootout to earn the victory. Goals in regulation came from UNB's Dove-McFalls and Ross MacDougall and UPEI's Jaden Peca and Filip Rydstrom.

The Panthers split their Week 5 games, earning a convincing 7-0 victory over the Aigles Bleus Wednesday. Sophomore forward Jesse Sutton led the way with a natural hat trick, while Kyle Maksimovich added a pair of goals. TJ SheaOwen Headrick and Danil Antropov each had two assists in the win. And with 28 saves, goaltender Jonah Capriotti recorded his second shutout of the season.
