U Sports No.1 ranked Reds remain undefeated with sixth-straight win

The reigning AUS men's hockey champions, the UNB Reds, remain undefeated as they earned a weekend sweep, topping the StFX X-Men and Dalhousie Tigers.

The Reds kicked off their weekend with a 2-1 overtime victory over X-Men Friday night. Austen Keating netted the game-winning goal 3:36 into the extra frame to give the Reds the win, their fifth of the season. Goals in regulation came from UNB's Brady Gilmour (PP) and StFX's Matthew Philip.

UNB then skated to a 2-1 victory over the Tigers in Halifax Saturday night. Tyler Boland and Samuel Dove-McFalls (PP) found the back of the net for the Reds in the victory, while Logan Johnston scored the lone goal for the Tigers.

The Saint Mary's Huskies earned their third-straight victory this week, first skating to a 5-2 win over the UPEI Panthers. Three unanswered goals by the Huskies in the third period ultimately gave Saint Mary's the win. Huskies goals came from Josh Durham, Justin MacPherson, Sam King, Bradley Johnson (PP) and Mitchell Balmas (PP). On the Panthers side, Owen Headrick (PP) and Andrew Picco recorded tallies.

The Huskies then travelled to Wolfville to face the Acadia Axemen Friday night, where they picked up the 5-3 victory. Joel Bishop and Keith Getson both scored twice for the Huskies, with teammate Dawson Theede adding a powerplay tally. Acadia goals in the loss came from Maurizio Colella, Adam McMaster (PP) and Keegan Stevenson (PP). Saint Mary's goaltender made an impressive 44 saves in the victory.

The StFX X-Men visited the Axemen Wednesday night, where they played to a 7-4 victory. StFX goals came from William Bower, Liam Hawel (2), Jacob Hudson, Matthew Struthers, Matthew Philip and Josh Nelson, while Acadia goals came from Garrett McFadden (2) and Keegan Stevenson (PP). Acadia goals came from Garett McFadden (2), Keegan Stevenson (PP) and Jack Flaman.

The X-Men then hosted the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus Saturday night, where the Aigles Bleus scored four unanswered goals to complete the comeback to earn a 4-2 win. Samuel Guilbault scored twice for the visitors, with teammates Gabriel Vanier and Nathael Roy (EN) also getting onto the board. Matthew Struthers (PP) and William Bower scored for StFX in the loss.

Despite their loss to the Huskies Wednesday night, the Panthers bounced back to earn a 3-0 victory over the Axemen Saturday evening in Charlottetown. Jesse Sutton, Jordan Maher and Danil Antropov (PP) all recorded tallies in the win, with Jonah Capriotti making 21 saves for the shutout. 

The Tigers skated to a massive 6-1 win over the Aigles Bleus Friday night, with Derek Gentile and Dillon Boucher each netting a pair of goals for Dalhousie. Logan Johnston and Logan O'Neil also found the back of the net for the Tigers, with Nathael Roy netting the lone goal for Moncton.
