Panthers and X-Men earn weekend sweeps to rise up standings

The UPEI Panthers and StFX X-Men both earned weekend sweeps, allowing them to rise up the AUS Men's hockey standings.

The Panthers handed the Saint Mary's Huskies their first loss of the season on Friday night after skating to a 3-2 victory in a penalty-filled matchup at the Halifax Forum. Kameron Kielly earning Subway Player of the Game honours after scoring the game-winning goal for the Panthers. The Panthers then visited the Acadia Axemen on Saturday, earning a 5-3 win to give them a 3-3 record on the season.

The X-Men earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the Moncton Aigles Bleus on Friday evening, with freshman defenseman Adam Holwell being the overtime hero, netting the game winning goal 1:03 into the extra frame. StFX then hosted the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night in Antigonish, skating to a 2-1 win at home. 

The UNB Reds also earned a weekend sweep, allowing them to remain undefeated on the season to sit at the top of the AUS standings. The Reds edged the Axemen 2-1 on Friday night and earned a 3-2 overtime victory over the Huskies on Saturday night.

The Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus visited the Dalhousie Tigers Wednesday evening to kick off Week 4 of AUS men's hockey action, with the Aigles Bleus earning a 4-1 victory.
