With weekend sweeps, the Saint Mary's Huskies and UNB Reds remain undefeated to lead the AUS Men's hockey standings. The Huskies edged out the StFX X-Men on Friday night with a late goal for the 3-2 win, and gave their fans a good time during their homecoming game on Saturday night, with a 8-3 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers.
UNB's Mark Rassell scored twice on Friday night as the Reds defeated the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 5-1 on Friday night. On Saturday, the Reds used a powerful first-period surge to defeat the UPEI Panthers 6-3, with five of the Reds' goals coming in the first frame.
The UPEI Panthers held on for their first win of the season with a victory over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Wednesday evening. The Panthers held a 5-1 lead in the second period, until the Aigles Bleus attempted their comeback, scoring three goals in five minutes to cut the deficit to 5-4. Despite their efforts, the Aigles Bleus were unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-5.
The StFX X-Men outplayed the Acadia Axemen Wednesday evening at the Charles V. Keating Centre, besting the visitors 5-2 after an intense, physical game that saw a combined 74 minutes of penalties.
The Acadia Axemen bounced back from their loss the the X-Men and gave the home crowd something to cheer for on Homecoming Weekend in Wolfville, as they defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 6-3 on Friday night. The game was back and forth for most of the 60 minutes – including 4 lead changes – but Acadia pulled away in the third period with four goals coming in the final frame.
