AUS Men's Hockey Weekly Round Up: Week 10

Wednesday, Jan. 3

Saint Mary's 7 vs. Moncton 1 (Box Score)  
(MONCTON, N.B.) In the first AUS men's hockey game of the second semester, the Saint Mary's Huskies skated to a 7-1 victory over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus in Moncton Wednesday evening. Anthony Repaci, Subway player of the game, and Jack Coughler, led the visitors attack with two goal apiece, with Mark TrickettBradley Latour and Taylor Burke completing the scoring for the Huskies. Friday, Jan. 5

StFX 2 vs. UPEI 3 (SO) (Box Score)
(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.) The UPEI Panthers earned a 3-2 shootout victory at home Friday evening, snapping StFX's seven-game win streak. The X-Men opened the scoring in the first period with a power play tally from Santino Centorame at the 10:30 mark. Early in the second, Cody Payne tied things up for the Panthers, to enter the third with the game tied at 1-1. Early in the third, a shorthanded goal from UPEI's Beau McCue gave the Panthers the lead, until just over a minute later a tally from StFX's Matt Needham tied things at 2-2. Overtime was not enough to settle it as things headed into a shootout. Cody Payne scored the lone shootout goal to give UPEI the victory. Read more: Recap

Moncton 4 vs. Acadia 7 (Box Score)
(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) The Acadia Axemen won a back-and-forth game, against the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus Friday night. Remy Giftopoulos opened the scoring for the Axemen in the first, followed by a tally from teammate Kyle Farrell just 40 seconds later. A powerplay goal from Moncton's Jean-Francois Plante cut Acadia's lead to one heading into the second. The second period saw its fair share of goals, with three goals apiece from both teams, allowing the Axemen to hold a 5-4 lead going into the final frame. Goals in the second came from Moncton's Joey Richard, Plante, and Vincent Deslauriers, and Acadia's Farrell, Giftopoulos, and Matthew Pufahl. Goals in the third from Acadia's Taylor Makin and Chance Braid sealed the deal for the Axemen with the 7-4 victory. Read more: Recap

Dalhousie 5 vs. UPEI 2 (Box Score)
(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.) After surrendering the equalizer in the third period Saturday night, the Dalhousie Tigers responded in a big way with three unanswered goals to grab an important victory over the UPEI Panthers, as they look to get back into playoff contention. Subway Player of the Game, Colton Heffley came up huge for the Tigers in the third, recording a goal and an assist. Read more: Recap 

Acadia 4 vs. Saint Mary's 2 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Acadia Axemen added an empty-net goal to beat the Saint Mary's Huskies 4-2 on Saturday night at the Halifax Forum. Axemen goaltender Robert Steeves was named Subway Player of the Game, making 36 saves on the night. Mathew Pufahl, Remy Giftopolous, Sam Fioretti, and Taylor Makin got on the board for Acadia, while Jake Coughler and Calder Brooks responded with goals for Saint Mary's. Read more: Recap

StFX 5 vs. UNB 2 (Box Score)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) The St FX X-Men handed the UNB Varsity Reds their first regulation loss of the season, beating the host Varsity Reds 5-2 on Saturday. The Varsity Reds and the X-Men exchanged power-play goals in the first and second periods, as StFX's Adam Stevens opened the scoring in the first, and UNB's Kris Bennett tied it at 1-1 in the second. With less than 30 seconds to play on the second frame, Michael Clarke gave StFX a 2-1 lead with a goal that ultimately swayed the momentum in their favour, as three consecutive X-Men goals in the third put the game away. Nathan Pancel, Holden Cook, and Santino Centorame sealed the X victory. Randy Gazzola scored for UNB late in the third, but it was not enough as the X-Men skated away with the win. Sunday, Jan. 7

Dalhousie 0 vs. UNB 3 (Box Score)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) Less than 24 hours after suffering their first regulation time loss of the season, the UNB Varsity Reds got back into the win column on Sunday afternoon. Rylan Parenteau made 12 saves and recorded his first Atlantic University Sport shut-out, leading the Varsity Reds to a 3-0 win over the Dalhousie Tigers, while Randy Gazzola, Alex Goulet, and Cam Brace scored goals for UNB.
