AUS Men's Hockey Weekly Round Up: Week 2

Wednesday, Oct. 12

UPEI 1 at UNB 3 (Box Score)

The Varsity Reds posted a 3-1 win on home ice Wednesday in Fredericton. Gabe Guertler opened up the scoring in the first frame for the visitors.

The two teams battled through a scoreless second period before UNB managed three unanswered markers and the win in the final frame. Philippe Haley put the Varsity Reds on the board, Stephen Anderson notched the game winner and Christopher Caissy added an empty net goal to round out the scoring.

Friday, Oct. 14

UNB 9 at Moncton 2 (Box Score)

The Varsity Reds posted a commanding 9-2 win over the host Aigles Bleus Friday in Moncton. Samuel LeBlanc notched the lone goal of the first period just over 30 seconds into the game. In the second frame, the visitors hit back with five unanswered goals. 

Pierre Dupois scored a shorthanded goal to lessen the Aigles Bleus' deficit in the final period. But the Varsity Reds would respond with another four unanswered goals. Philippe Maillet let the UNB scoring effort with two goals and two assists. Francis Beauvillier and Stephen Anderson each scored two goals and an assist. Jordan Murray, Cam Braes and Christopher Caissy chipped in with one goal and one assist apiece.

StFX 1 at Saint Mary's 4 (Box Score)

The Huskies posted a 4-1 win over the reigning AUS champion X-Men Friday night in Halifax. After a scoreless first period, Calder Brooks and Ben Duffy (shorthanded) put Saint Mary's on the board in the second. 

Eric Locke answered for StFX with a power play goal in the final frame. But Anthony Repaci (on the power play) and Taylor Burke each added an insurance goal to secure the Huskies' win.

Dalhousie 2 at Acadia 3 OT (Box Score)

The Axemen posted a 3-2 win at home in overtime Friday over the visiting Dalhousie Tigers. Following a scoreless first period, Michael Clarke and Chance Braid notched a marker each for Acadia in the second. 

Colton Parsons and Alex Pawelczyk responded for Dalhousie in the final frame to force overtime. Less than a minute into overtime, Kyle Farrell notched the game winner for the Axemen with assists coming from Geoff Schemitsch and Brett Thompson.

Saturday, Oct. 15

Moncton 3 at UPEI 2 OT (Box Score)

The visiting Aigles Bleus topped the UPEI Panthers 3-2 in overtime Saturday in Charlottetown. UPEI's Cody Payne and Moncton's Marc-Anthony Therrien exchanged goals in the opening frame. After a scoreless second period, Gabe Guertler put the Panthers up one before Therrien notched his second of the night to tie things up. 

Just over a minute into overtime, Jean-François Plante netted the game winner for Moncton, with assists coming from Pierre Durepos and Alex Saulnier.

StFX 5 at Acadia 3 (Box Score)

The StFX X-Men posted a 5-3 win over the Acadia Axemen Saturday night in Wolfville, N.S. Kristoff Kontos and Bryson Ciafrone scored a goal apiece for the visitors on in the opening frame.

In the second period, Mark Tremaine and Holden Cook added to StFX's tally, while Liam Maaskant responded for the Axemen.

Remy Giftopoulos notched two markers in the final frame to put the Axemen within one. But Adam Stevens secured the X-Men win with an empty net goal in the final minute.

Saint Mary's 1 at Dalhousie 3 (Box Score)

The Dalhousie Tigers posted a 3-1 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in an all-Halifax battle Saturday night at the Halifax Forum. Calder Brooks opened up the scoring less than two minutes into the game for Saint Mary's. Mike Evelyn responded for Dalhousie in the second period.

With less than four minutes remaining in the game, Alex Pawelczyk and Andrew Wigginton notched a goal apiece to secure the Dalhousie win.
