SMU blanks Acadia 4-0 in Game 3 of Subway AUS semi-final series

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Anthony Peters (Blyth, Ont.) got the shutout as the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Acadia Axemen 4-0 in Game 3 of the best-of-five Subway AUS semi-final series at the Halifax Forum Sunday night.

Peters' huge night garnered him Subway player of the game honours.

The two teams were unable to get on the board in the first period. Shots were 9-8 in favour of Acadia after one.

In the second, the Huskies broke the deadlock when Michael Curtis (Georgetown, Ont.) tallied at 4:33 to give Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead. The Huskies extended their lead when Jamie Doornbosch (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored a shorthanded goal at 11:44 to make it 2-0 lead at the end of two. 

The third saw Saint Mary's on the scoreboard again, when Gerrad Grant (Halifax, N.S.) potted a marker at 7:44 to make the score 3-0. The Huskies added some insurance when Stephen Johnston (Guelph, Ont.) scored on the power play at 16:03 to make it 4-0. 

Mike Cazzola led the Axemen (Guelph, Ont.) with five shots on goal.

The Axemen outshot the Huskies 37-23 on the night. Peters made 37 saves to get the win in net for Saint Mary's and Brandon Glover (Victoria, B.C.) stopped 19 shots in goal for Acadia.

Game four of this series will be on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Forum. If a fifth game is necessary, it will be played Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in Wolfville.
