Aigles Bleus top Huskies 5-1 in Subway AUS men's hockey quarter-final action and force Game 3

(MONCTON, N.B.) – The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus topped the Saint Mary's Huskies 5-1 in the second game of the Subway AUS men's hockey quarter-final series between the two teams. With the win, the Aigles force a third matchup in the best-of-three series. 

Moncton's Pier-Antoine Dion (St-Christophe d'Arthabaska, Que.) opened up the scoring 4:25 into the first period with assists coming from Christopher Guay (Pont Rouge, Que.) and Jean-Francois Plante (Sherbrooke, Que.).

Mitchell Robillard (Laval Ouest, Que.) notched the eventual game-winner just under five minutes later. Luc Williams (Notre Dame, N.B.) earned the lone assist on the marker. 

At 11:18, Steve Lebel (Lemoyne, Que.) notched the first insurance goal for the Aigles on the power play. Remi Blanchard (Bas-Caraquet, N.B.) and Danny Chiasson (Lamèque, N.B.) earned the assists. 

Moncton edged the Huskies 9-5 in shots in the first period. 

The home team would add two more goals in the second period, with Alex Emond (Pohénégamook, Que.) notching the first at 5:30 off assists from Thierry Comtois (Sherbrooke, Que.) and Guay.  

The only other second-period marker was scored by Alex Saulnier (Cap-Pelé, N.B.) at 16:13, from Plante and brother Allain Saulnier (Cap-Pelé, N.B.).

The Huskies narrowly edged the Aigles in shots in the second, 17-16.

In the third, with just under five minutes remaining, Stephen MacAulay (Cole Harbour, N.S.) would notch the Huskies first and only goal on the Saint Mary's power play. Ben Duffy (Lower Sackville, N.S.) earned the assist. 

Brandon Thibeau (Riverview, N.B.) stood tall in net for the Aigles, stopping 33 of 34 shots on the night. 

Anthony Peters (Blyth, Ont.) faced 35 shots in net for Saint Mary's. 

The winner of the best-of-three AUS quarter-final series will be determined this Saturday, Feb. 14 when the two teams face off in Game 3. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Halifax Forum.
