(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Moncton Aigles Bleus by a score of 2-0 in the opening game of the 2015 Subway AUS men's hockey quarter-final playoff series Tuesday night at the Halifax Forum.

Exceptional goaltending by fourth-year goalie Anthony Peters (Blyth, Ont.) led to the shutout win for the Huskies while Stephen Johnston (Guelph, Ont.) scored both goals for Saint Mary's.

Peters' performance earned him Subway player of the game honours.

Saint Mary's got on the board very quickly when Johnston scored at 0:54, with assists going to Steven Shipley (Ilderton, Ont.) and Steven Beyers (Orangeville, Ont.), to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead after the first period.

In the second, the Huskies got on the board again when Johnston scored his second of the game at 1:23, with Shipley and Beyers getting both assists again, to make the score 2-0 at the end of two.

Neither team was able to put a goal on the board in the third period.

For the Aigles Bleus, Pier-Antoine Dion (St-Christophe d'Arthabaska, Que.), Jean-Francois Plante (Sherbrooke, Que.) and Allain Saulnier (Cap-Pelé, N.B.) tied for the team lead in shots on goal with five apiece.

The Aigles Bleus outshot the Huskies 34-28 in the contest.

Peters made 34 saves in goal for Saint Mary's and Brandon Thibeau (Riverview, N.B.) stopped 26 shots for the Aigles Bleus.

The two teams will play the second game of the best-of-three series on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in Moncton.

If a third game is necessary, it is scheduled for Saturday at the Forum at 7 p.m.
