(MONCTON, N.B.) - Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus worked hard and were 4-1 winners over the Acadia University Axemen in the third game of the best 3-of-5 semifinal series of the Subway AUS men's hockey championship, Saturday in front of over 1,000 spectators at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
The Axemen hold a 2-1 lead in the series by winning both games played in Wolfville, 5-2 Wednesday and 6-5, in overtime on Thursday. The fourth game will be played Sunday at 7 p.m. on the Moncton campus.
Samuel Groulx (from Simon Lacroix and Alex Noël), in the first period, and Simon Belliveau (unassisted), Alex Emond (from Eric Faille and Danny Chiasson) and Alex Noël (from Steve LeBel and Rémi Blanchard), in the third period were able to get the puck by goaltender Evan Mosher on 21 shots.
Mike Cazzola, in the first, on a 5-on-3 power-play, replied for the visitors. They took 23 shots against Moncton's Adrien Lemay. There was no scoring in the second stanza.
"We did our work tonight," said head coach Serge Bourgeois. "We showed character and I really enjoyed the way we came back after our Thursday evening loss. Our ice surface probably helped a bit because they had less space to manoevre. They have a great team. The Faille trio did well against their top line. I have to give credit to the players."
"I saw an opening and I decided to go for it," said defenceman Simon Belliveau about his winning goal. "This is quite an experience that I will never forget. This was one of our best games this season. We are not finished or dead, we can do it."
