Jamaal Potopsingh of the UNB Varsity Reds men's basketball team is the Wilsons Security Defensive Player of the Week.

A first-year forward from Brampton, Ont., Potopsingh was a crucial part of the Varsity Reds' defence in two weekend wins, as UNB continues to battle it out for the bye to the semi-final round of this year's AUS playoffs.

The V-Reds swept the StFX X-Men this past weekend, winning 99-86 Saturday and 91-82 Sunday. 

Potopsingh was named Subway Player of the Game Saturday after posting a game-high 27 points and seven rebounds. He also had a team-high five defensive rebounds and a steal for the UNB defence. 

Sunday, he was a force on defence for the Varsity Reds, with a team-high eight defensive rebounds to go along with two steals and two blocks. 

Potopsingh is averaging 13.1 points per game so far this season and is leading the UNB squad in defensive rebounds, averaging 5.4 per game.

The Varsity Reds have two games remaining in the regular season. They host the Cape Breton Capers this Friday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. and will finish out the season on the road with a game at StFX Feb. 24.
