AUS Men's Basketball Weekly Roundup: Week 3

Wednesday, November 18

StFX 93 at Acadia 92 (Box Score)

The StFX X-Men visited the Acadia Axemen on Wednesday evening in Wolfville and squeaked by with a 93-92 victory. Both teams battled hard in the first quarter, with the X-Men outscoring the Axemen 24-21. But the home team would fight hard to gain the lead in the second quarter, scoring twice as many points as StFX to lead 43-35 at halftime.

The game remained close through the second half and was eventually won on a pair of made Kevin Bercy free throws. Bercy led the X-Men with 23 points, six rebound and two steals. Akil Charles posted 20 points for StFX and Davonte Provo chipped in with 17. Nick De Palma led the Axemen with 25 points, while teammates Erik Nissen and Shaquille Smith added 18 and 13 respectively.

Dalhousie 58 at Saint Mary's 77 (Box Score)

The Saint Mary's Huskies hosted the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday night in Halifax. The game was close through the first two quarters with the Tigers leading 21-20 at the end of the first and the Huskies taking the lead 41-37 at halftime. But the home team would break away in the third, outscoring the Dalhousie 19-8 and taking a lead the Tigers would prove unable to overcome.

Brian Rouse led the Huskies with 16 points and added five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Teammates Marquis Clayton and Theon Reefer chipped with 13 points apiece. Reefer added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals while Clayton posted eight assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block. Kashrell Lawrence led the Tigers with 16 points and added three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Teammate Jarred Reid added seven points, six rebounds, two steals and a block.

Friday, November 20

Cape Breton 75 at UPEI 90 (Box Score)

The Cape Breton Capers travelled to Charlottetown on Friday night to take on the UPEI Panthers. Despite missing CIS-leading scorer Tyler Scott who was out with the flu, the Panthers posted a 90-75 victory over the Capers. The Capers came out strong, leading 21-11 at the end of the first quarter, but were then outscored 31-11 in second. The Panthers held onto their lead through the entire second half.

UPEI was led by Bradley States who posted a double-double in the win with 28 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block. Teammate Lorenzo Parker also managed a double-double, adding 17 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Dut Dut added 15 points, seven rebounds and an assist. Cape Breton was led by Seth Amoah who had 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal, and by Kenny Jean-Louis who added 16 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Saturday, November 21

UNB 84 at Memorial 95 (Box Score)

The UNB Varsity Reds travelled to St. John's on Saturday to face the Memorial Sea-Hawks. The Varsity Reds led 40-33 at halftime, but were then outscored 25-13 and 39-31 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

The Sea-Hawks were powered by Caleb Gould who had a 38-point performance, to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and a steal. Teammate Vasilije Curcic had a double-double, posting 11 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and an assist. Davion Parnsalu added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Noel Moffatt had 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals and assist. UNB was led by Javon Masters who posted 20 points and Mark Matheson who had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

 

Cape Breton 88 at UPEI 109 (Box Score)

On Saturday night, the UPEI Panthers hosted the Cape Breton Capers for the second time this weekend. With CIS-leading scorer Tyler Scott back in action after missing Friday night's game, the Panthers posted a convincing 109-88. Scott posted 35 points in the matchup, while teammates Bradley States and Lorenzo Parker chipped in with 21 and 17 points respectively. 

The Capers were led by Kenny Jean-Louis and Cedric Kasongo who had 25 and 23 points respectively.

Dalhousie 83 at Acadia 85 (Box Score)

The Acadia Axemen hosted the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night. The Axemen squeaked by the Tigers 85-83 in the four-point matchup. The two teams were tied 42-42 at halftime and 56-56 after three quarters. 

Acadia was led by Shaquille Smith who had 19 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal, and Erik Nissen who had a double-double, posting 16 points and 13 rebounds. Ben Miller, Nick De Palma and Kyle Arseneault added 15, 14 and 13 points respectively. The Tigers were led by Kashrell Lawrence who had 25 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Sunday, November 22

UNB 99 at Memorial 96 (Box Score)

On Sunday morning, the Memorial Sea-Hawks hosted the UNB Varsity Reds for their second meeting of the weekend. The Varsity Reds jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Sea-Hawks 24-16 in the first quarter and leading 49-38 at halftime. Memorial would battle back in the third quarter, outscoring UNB 28-17, but it would not be enough. 

The Varsity Reds were led by Javon Masters who posted 33 points, four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block. Teammate Matt Daley added 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Vasilije Curcic led Memorial with 28 points, nine rebounds, seven blocks and two assists. Teammate Caleb Gould posted 22 points and eight assists.
