Cape Breton upsets Memorial 86-83

(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) - The Cape Breton Capers spoiled the Memorial Sea-Hawks first game of 2015 on Sunday with a tough 86-83 decision in AUS men's basketball at the Field House.

The Sea-Hawks were off to a hot start, taking the first quarter 25-15. Continuing the trend, Memorial out-shot Cape Breton 20-12 in the second quarter, making the score 45-27 going into the half.

Sea-Hawks were up by 22 at the end of the third, but ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, and were outscored 37-12. The Capers took the game with a final score of 86-83.

Kenny Jean-Louis (Montreal, Que.) led the Capers in the win with 22 points off the bench, while Akeem Isaac-Philip (Scarborough, Ont.) and Meshack Lufile (Burlington, Ont.) each provided 20 of their own.

Vasilije Curcic (Kragujevac, Serbia) led the Sea-Hawks with 21 points in his first AUS debut of the season. Caleb Gould (Aurora, Ont.) was close behind at 19 points and seven rebounds.

The Subway player of the game honours went to Isaac-Philip of Cape Breton.

Cape Breton improves to 4-5 on the season while Memorial is now 1-6.

The Capers and Sea-Hawks are back for round two tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Field House. Due to weather delays the weekend's games were pushed back by a day.
