(SYDNEY, N.S.) - A four-game losing streak came to a screaming halt Friday night in Sydney as the Cape Breton Capers knocked off the CIS No. 6-ranked University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 93-89 in AUS men's basketball action.
Meshack Lufile had 23 points and six rebounds for the Capers who improved to 3-4 on the season heading into the Christmas break. UNB falls to 6-1.
Vishal Banipal 12 points in 15 minutes for CBU while leading a bench contingent, which scored 44 points for the winners.
Akeem Isaac with 11 points, nine assists and six rebounds, Seth Amoah with 11 points and AJ Geugjes with 10 points and seven boards were other key contributors from the Capers second unit Friday.
Will McFee had 23 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists to lead the Varsity Reds offence.
Jordan Irvine added 19 points and Javon Masters chipped in with 16 points and five assists in a losing cause.
The Capers will now be off until Jan. 6 when they travel to Antigonish to tip off the second half of the season against the StFX X-Men.
