Huskies win 94-80 over visiting Capers

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the visiting CIS No. 8-ranked Cape Breton University Capers 94-80 in AUS men's basketball action Saturday night, in a game worth four points in the AUS standings.

Saint Mary's Osman Barrie recorded a double-double and led all scorers with 24 points and 14 rebounds.

Achuil Lual added 21 points and hauled in eight boards in the Huskies win.

Saint Mary's took an early lead 25-20 after 10 minutes and used a 26-21 second quarter score for a 51-41 halftime lead.

SMU opened up the third quarter outscoring CBU 27-23 and built a 78-64 cushion.

Both teams ended the fourth quarter even 16-16 for the scoring.

CBU's Arild Geugjes had 18 points and Meshack Lufile had 15 points in the Capers' loss.

All five starters for Saint Mary's scored in double digits, with Marquis Clayton adding 15 points and a game-high nine assists while Jeremy McAvoy and Kemar Alleyne each had 11 points.

Also scoring for the Huskies were Brian Rouse with five points, Ryan Augustine four points and Aaron Fisher added three points.

The Capers fall to 2-4 on the year while Saint Mary's improves to 2-3 in AUS play.

The Huskies are on the road next versus Acadia Axemen (2-4) Nov. 27 for an 8 p.m. game. 

Cape Breton will host the UNB Varsity Reds Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. in another game worth four points in the AUS standings.
