(LENNOXVILLE, QUE.) Atlantic University Sport Most Outstanding Player Justin Quirion was terrific, Oliver Burnett caught a pair of touchdown passes and the Bishop's defense was spectacular as the No. 6 Gaiters beat the Acadia Axemen 59-0 on Saturday in Lennoxville in an AUS Semifinal presented by Bell.
The Gaiters took the opening kickoff, marched 11 plays, 85 yards and Quirion connected with Burnett on an 11-yard touchdown. The hosts never looked back.
Bishop's defense sensational they held the Axemen to zero first downs in the first half and just 15 yards of total offense while grabbing a 29-0 lead.
Quirion, who played a little more than three quarters finished 21-30 for 364 yards and four touchdowns including a spectacular 70-yard pass and catch to Burnett for his second major of the game early in the second stanza.
He also connected with Nykolas Pierre-Masse and Joey Julien for touchdowns. David Chaloux added a one-yard touchdown run and back up quarterback Xaiver Gervais found Charles-Edouard Bizier for a 14-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Gervais also added two field goals, converted on the six touchdown and added two rouges while the Axemen conceded three safeties to round out the scoring.
Burnett finished the game as the top receiver with five catches for 127 yards and the two majors.
Bishop's outgained the Axemen 557 to 57 yards, had 30 first downs to Acadia's two and ran 33 more plays.
Quirion was named player of the game for Bishop's while Acadia's Graham Nightingale earned the honors for the visitors.
Bishop's moves on to the Loney Bowl against the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. It will mark the first time the AUS Championship is contested on Coulter Field. Tickets for the game go on sale Sunday, Nov. 3 at noon at www.gaiters.ca/tickets.
