Week 9 AUS Football Players of the Week: Guenard, Feltmate and Burnham honoured

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Acadia quarterback Hunter Guenard and linebacker Bailey Feltmate, along with StFX kicker and punter Keiran Burnham, have been selected as the Week 9 AUS football players of the week for their respective performances this past weekend.

Acadia Axemen quarterback Hunter Guenard is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 21, 2018.

A third-year arts student from Calgary, Guenard threw 23 completions on 40 attempts for 363 yards and three touchdowns in Acadia's 27-11 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B.

He currently leads the AUS conference in several categories including touchdowns (12), pass yards per game (242.9), completion percentage (66.8%) and pass efficiency (159.3).

Acadia Axemen linebacker Bailey Feltmate has been named the AUS football defensive player of the week.

A third-year kinesiology student from Moncton, N.B., Feltmate had 7.5 tackles (six solo and three assisted) in Acadia's 27-11 over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday.

He also had two pass breakups for the Axemen defence. With the win, Acadia secured their spot in the AUS playoff semifinal game which will be hosted Nov. 3 by StFX in Antigonish, N.S.

University: St. Francis Xavier University
Position: Kicker/Punter
Hometown: Cambridge, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Third
Academic program: BA
Height and weight: 6'2", 185 lbs

St. Francis Xavier punter and kicker Keiran Burnham is the AUS football special teams player of the week for the week ending Oct. 21, 2018.

A third-year arts student from Cambridge, Ont., Burnham continued his strong kicking game in StFX's 12-11 win Saturday over the Bishop's Gaiters in Lennoxville, Que.

He kicked the game-winning field goal from 31 yards out with seven seconds left in the game. He also had a field goal from 24 yards in the third quarter, along with seven punts in the game for 241 yards (34.4 avg) and four kick-offs for 221 yards (55.3 avg). Three of his punts were downed inside the 20.

Burnham currently leads the AUS in punting average at 39.7 per punt. He also leads in field goals made with 16 and field goal percentage (84.2%).

With the win, the X-Men secured hosting rights to the AUS playoff semifinal where they will host the Acadia Axemen Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.

The winner will advance to face the Saint Mary's Huskies Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in Halifax in the Subway AUS Loney Bowl.
