Week 1 AUS Football Players of the Week: Reid, LeBlanc and Hope honoured

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Running back Chris Reid and defensive back Skylar LeBlanc, both from the Mount Allison Mounties, along with Saint Mary's kicker Brian Hope, have been selected as the Week 1 AUS football players of the week for their respective performances this past weekend.

Mount Allison Mounties running back Chris Reid is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Aug. 26, 2018.

A fifth-year arts student from Brampton, Ont., Reid was named Subway Player of the Game in the Mounties 36-22 defeat of the Bishop's Gaiters in their home opener Saturday afternoon in Sackville, N.B.

He had 21 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown, as well as two receptions for 26 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Reid surpassed career 2,500 rushing yards this weekend. Following his first game of the season in his final year of eligibility, he now sits eighth in the AUS record books in this category with 2,509 career rushing yards.

Mount Allison Mounties defensive back Skylar LeBlanc has been named the AUS football defensive player of the week.

A fifth-year commerce student in his third year of eligibility, LeBlanc had an interception in Saturday's 36-22 win over Bishop's which he returned 52 yards for a touchdown.

He also had 4.5 tackles (three solo and three assisted), including a tackle for loss in the win.

Saint Mary's Huskies kicker Brian Hope is the AUS football special teams player of the week for the week ending Aug. 26, 2018.

A third-year arts student from Port Coquitlam, B.C., Hope scored 14 points in Saint Mary's 20-13 win over the StFX X-Men in the AUS season opener Friday night in Halifax, N.S.

He made good on four of six field goal attempts as well as a lone point-after attempt, with his final point coming off a rouge. 

Hope also had four punts for 139 yards in the win, one of which was downed inside the 20, along with four kickoffs for 209 yards.
