Johnston Two Goals and an Assist as Huskies Shutout Tommies 7-0

(Halifax, NS) In AUS men's hockey action, the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 7-0 tonight at the Halifax Forum.

The two teams went scoreless in the first period. In the second period, The Huskies struck first when Austyn Hardie (Montreal, QC) scored with a snap shot from the circle at 5:06 to make it 1-0. Saint Mary's increased their lead when Jamie Doornbosch (Richmond Hill, ON) tallied from in close when the puck bounced off a Tommies player right to his stick at 10:23 to make the score 2-0 after two periods. In the third, Saint Mary's kept it going when Taylor Burke (Halifax, NS) potted a marker from the circle at 9:38 on the powerplay to increase the lead to 3-0. The Huskies lit the lamp again when Subway player of the game Stephen Johnston (Guelph, ON) scored from in close at 10:15 to up their lead up to 4-0. Saint Mary's further padded their lead when Johnston tallied for the second time from the slot at 13:42 to make it 5-0. The Huskies kept up the offensive frenzy when Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON) potted a marker from the slot at 15:47 to make the score 6-0. Saint Mary's added further insurance when Steven Beyers (Orangeville, ON) put it in off some nice passing at 19:28 to bring the game to its final score of 7-0. For the Tommies, Rankyn Campbell (Rexton, NB) led his team with four shots.

The Huskies outshot the Tommies 57-10. Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) made 10 saves to get the shutout for the Huskies. Tyson Teichmann (Belleville, ON) stopped 50 shots in net for the Tommies.

Both teams are back in action this Friday. Saint Mary's visits the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus at 7:00 pm and the Tommies host the Acadia Axemen.
