Sea-Hawks Drop Weekend Opener

The Acadia Axemen earned a well-deserved road victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks by a score 89-65 at The Field House on Saturday night.

After a hard weekend against Dalhousie, the Sea-Hawks squared off against the Acadia Axemen, another tough challenge. The Axemen came out with confidence, knocking down shots with ease all over the court. Acadia ended the first half with a scorching field-goal percentage (53%). For Memorial, it was the opposite; struggling from the field, especially from three-point land, shooting only 10%.

Acadia led at the half 50-31; Erik Nissen put up a solid 13 for the Axemen in the first half. Daniel Gordon supplied 9 points for the Sea-Hawks.

Coming back from halftime, it was more of the same for both teams. Memorial struggling to take care of the basketball, and Acadia dominating on the offensive end.

For the Axemen, Erik Nissen led the charge with a double-double (22 points, 12 rebounds). Nissen was selected as the Subway Player of the Game.

Memorial had a real struggles shooting the ball, shooting less than 30% from outside, and only 65% from the line. The Sea-Hawks left many points on the floor unscored due to turnovers, easy shots missed, and fatigue on the line from the Axemen' strong defense. Daniel Gordon was a positive factor for the Hawks, posting 17 points to lead Memorial.

The Hawks will look for a win in the final game of the weekend series. They now fall to 4-9 on the season. The Axemen advance to 10-2 maintaining their top spot in the AUS. Tomorrow's game will be available on AUStv.ca starting at 2:00pm.
