Huskies drop Tigers 9-3 in Annual Tomstrong game

(Halifax, NS)  In AUS men's hockey action Wednesday night, the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 9-3 in in the annual TomStrong night.  The Huskies also recognized graduating players, Bradley Green, Mitchell Maynard and Phil Wright.  

Saint Mary's opened the scoring when Taylor Burke (Halifax, NS) scored on a partial break at 3:03 to make it 1-0. The Huskies got on the board again when Bradley Greene (Tilting, NL) tallied off a two on one at 11:31 to increase their lead to 2-0. Saint Mary's kept it up when Anthony Repaci (Toronto, ON) potted a marker off a nice pass from behind the net on the powerplay at 13:41 to make it 3-0. The Huskies kept their momentum going quickly after when Michael Curtis (Georgetown, ON) found the back of the net from the circle at 14:07 to get their lead to 4-0 after the first period.

In the second period, Saint Mary's continued their offensive bonanza when Ben Duffy (Lower Sackville, NS) scored off a second rebound in a wild scramble at 5:22 on the powerplay to make the score 5-0. Dalhousie finally got on the board when Tanner Williams (Iroquois, ON) tallied off of tipping a point shot at 5:45 to cut the deficit to 5-1. The Huskies got that one back when Jamie Doornbosch (Richmond Hill, ON) potted a marker off a backhand at 12:28 to regain the five goal lead at 6-1. The Tigers responded when Andrew Reider (Saskatoon, SK) found the back of the net in close at 13:51 to make the score 6-2 after two periods.

In the third, Saint Mary's continued playing hard when Repaci got his second of the game from the circle at 4:56 on the powerplay to get their lead to 7-2. Dalhousie got on the board again when Fabian Walsh (Gloucester, ON) scored from the slot at 7:00 on the powerplay to reduce the lead to 7-3. The Huskies continued their offensive display when Green got his second of the game tallied from the slot at 9:45 to further increase their lead to 8-3. The Huskies found the net again when Francis Menard (Embrun, ON) potted a marker off a rebound at 18:56 on the powerplay, completing an impressive powerplay effort for Saint Mary's, to add further insurance to their victory.

The Huskies outshot the Tigers 36-17. Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) and Phillip Wright (Beaver Bank, NS) combined to make 14 saves to get the win for the Huskies. Wendell Vye (Moncton, NB) stopped 27 shots in goal for the Tigers.

Both teams wrap up their regular seasons on Friday on the road at 7:00 pm. The Huskies visit the Acadia Axemen and the Tigers face the Saint Francis Xavier X-Men.
