(Halifax, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers used a controlled offensive game to shutout the Mount Allison Mounties 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Wickwire Field.

As a whole, the home side outshot the visitors 23-3, and had 14 shots on goal.

The Tigers controlled the pace of play in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the break, while outshooting the Mounties 12-1 in the process.

Dalhousie's goal came courtesy of midfielder Adelle Goodfellow (Halifax, NS) in the 30th minute, on a booming shot from the left flank that went top corner.

The Tigers did an effective job offensively, using on touch passes and their speed to keep play primarily in the Mount Allison zone.

The home side had a total of nine shots on goal, in the opening 45 minutes including a few quality chances from within in the box from midfielder Maya Venkataraman (Summerland, BC), however Mount Allison goalie Tessa Ritchie (Ottawa, ON) kept her team in the game with some critical challenges and timely saves.

The second half was a more closely contested battle, until the Tigers stepped up their offensive prowess in the 60th minute with two great chances – one from inside and one from just outside the 18-yard box. Yet again, Ritchie kept the Mounties in the game with two critical saves.

Dalhousie would put the game to rest in the 71st minute though, as defender Amanda Bowles (Burlington, ON) netted a shot from in close range to seal a 2-0 win.

The Subway Players of the Game were Adelle Goodfellow for Dalhousie and midfielder Myranda Weild (Calgary, AB) for Mount Allison.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-6-1 while the Mounties fell to 1-6-1. Dalhousie will travel to Acadia for their next game this Friday, while Mount Allison will host StFX on the same day.
