Capers earn weekend split with Panthers
The Cape Breton Capers picked up a split in a pair of AUS men's basketball games against the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers Saturday and Sunday at the Sullivan Fieldhouse in Sydney.
The Capers couldn't overcome a slow start Sunday and dropped their first game of 2016 by a 97-80 score.
Kenny Jean-Louis had 20 points to lead the CBU scoring as the Capers fell to 7-6 on the year.
Meshack Lufile had 17 points and 14 rebounds while Cedric Kasongo chipped in with 12 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in a losing cause.
Brad States had a game high 29 points for the Panthers, 10-4 overall.
Lorenzo Parker had 18 points off the bench for the Panthers, while Milorad Sedlarevic finished with 15 points.
Saturday, Jean-Louis had 21 points and Lufile 14 points and 12 boards in the Capers 77-63 victory.
Kyle Hankins provided a spark of the bench for CBU with 14 points in just 15 minutes of floor time.
Scott and States finished with 16 and 13 points respectively for the Panthers.
The Capers will be on the road this weekend when they take on the Acadia Axemen Friday and Saturday in Wolfville.
