Sea-Hawks fall to Capers

(St. John's, NL) - The Memorial Sea-Hawks suffered a 2-0 loss to U Sports #1 ranked team, the Cape Breton Capers.

The first half started with a whirlwind attack from Cape Breton, when 30 seconds into the game the Capers broke away from the Memorial defense and fired a shot into the back of the net, only for the attempt to be ruled offside. Memorial shook it off and tightened up their defense after that close call. Then in the 26th minute Cape Breton played the ball to Jack Simpson (Redding, UK) on the wing, who crossed it in to his teammate Cory Bent (Preston, UK) and finished top corner to put CBU 1-0 ahead of the home team.

Memorial's keeper Braeden Sheppard (St. John's, NL) got kicked in the side of his head by teammate Sean Henderson (St. John's, NL) during the play, and had to be substituted out. The first half ended 1-0 for Cape Breton.

The second half started and Cape Breton came out with an attacking mindset. Memorial's defense was strong, but not enough to hold back the Capers. The Sea-Hawk's defender Riley Bennet (Mount Pearl, NL) performed well, winning an admirable amount of tackles and holding his own against the Cape Breton strikers. But, in the 60th minute, Cape Breton found the back of the net again when Joel Eckert-Ayensa (Pulhaim, DE) fired a bullet into the top right corner beating Memorial keeper Sam Hawco (Mount Pearl, NL).

Cape Breton continued to try and push the goal count, but the Memorial defense held strong and the game finished 2-0 for the Capers.

The Sea-Hawks will battle it out again tomorrow on King George V Field at 3:15pm NST. You can watch live at AUStv.ca or follow the box score at www.goseahawks.ca.
