WOLFVILLE – The Acadia Axewomen had a balanced output from their starters on Wednesday night as they topped the Dalhousie Tigers 90-64 to pick up their first win of the season.

Acadia led from the beginning of the game, with the largest lead of the night being 34 points in the third quarter. That came partially thanks to the play of the Axewomen starters. Four of the five finished in double-digit scoring, while two had double-doubles.

Lisa Bolander (Uppsala, Sweden) had a team-high 17 points, earning her player of the game honours at the end of the night, while Samantha Russell (Dartmouth, NS) and Elizabeth Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) finished with double-doubles. Russell had 12 points and 12 rebounds, with Iseyemi finishing with 16 points and 13 boards.

Julia Sylvester (Dundas, ON) was the fourth starter in double-digits with 14 points.

For the Tigers, Simona Matic (Belgrade, Serbia) had a game-high 22 points. She was named player of the game, having also finished with a game-high six assists, which tied Acadia's Bianca Helmig (Speyer, Germany).

Kaitlyn Ferrier (Calgary, AB) and Sydney Guker-Wickie (Kitchener, ON) also finished in double digits with 11 points apiece as starters for Dalhousie.

The two teams meet again on Sunday in Halifax, with tip-off set for 2 p.m. at Dalplex.
