Polak gets two, Huskies Blank Tommies 2-0

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 2-0 in AUS women's hockey action Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

The Huskies opened the scoring when Subway player for the game Laura Polak (Bedford, NS) tallied from the slot at 9:50 to make it 1-0 after the first period, with the assists going to Kiana Wilkinson (Prince George, BC) and Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, NS).

The two teams went scoreless in the second period. In the third, Saint Mary`s struck again when Polak got her second of the game off a backhand in the slot, assisted by Lanceleve and Mary Worndl (Kitchener, ON)  to bring the game to its final of score of 2-0.

For the Tommies, Lauren Henman (Cow Bay, NS) led her team with four shots on goal.

The Huskies outshot the Tommies 23-18. Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) made 18 saves to get the shutout for the Huskies. Taylor Cook (Branford, ON) stopped 21 shots in goal for the Tommies.

The Huskies are currently on a 9 game winning streak and set first in the AUS with 18 points, 4 ahead of 2nd place St. Thomas.  They are back in action this Saturday when they host the Mount Allison Mounties at 7:00 pm while the Tommies play next this Friday at home against the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues at 7.
