The Dalhousie Tigers women's hockey team defeated the UdeM Aigles Bleues by a score of 4-2 on Friday night at the Civic arena. This victory marked the first regular season win for the Tigers and the first loss in regulation time for Moncton.

The Tigers opened the scoring just under two minutes into the battle when Jesse Rietveld (Pelham, ON) found the back of the net after a scramble in front of the goalies crease.

The Tigers ran into some penalty trouble throughout the first period – this seemed to be a reoccurring theme throughout the game for the Tigers.

Tigers player Laura Brooks was one of those contributors to the penalty trouble when she took a four-minute head contact penalty with just under five minutes to go in the first period.

The Tigers could only hold off the Aigles Bleues' power play unit for two and a half minutes when forward Brittany Poitras got the team on the board. This would be the last goal of the period, closing out the first with a score of 1-1.

Moncton came out and took the lead early in the second period when captain Karine Roy snuck one past Tigers goaltender Jessica Severeyns. Severeyns ended up stopping a total of 25 shots throughout the battle.

The Tigers ran into some penalty trouble again mid way through the second period but their penalty kill was lights out. They ended up killing off four out of the five penalties called against them that night.

With just over ten minutes remaining in the second, Moncton player Marie-Pier Corriveau poked the puck away from a Tigers defender at the blue line and gave herself a clear cut breakaway. Severeyns came in huge with a clutch save to keep the score at 2-1 for the Aigles Bleues.

Moncton received their first penalty of the game when Katryne Villeneuve was penalized for tripping, but the Tigers power play could not capitalize. This would end the period with a score of 2-1 for Moncton.

The third period started with both teams flying out of the gates, as there was action at both ends of Civic arena.

The score remained constant until the ten-minute mark when the Tigers began to apply some excellent pressure on Moncton's defence.

Two Tigers forwards got a tremendous 2-on-1 break with eight minutes remaining in the game but goaltender Sabrina Lebrun came in huge for Moncton and quickly nestled the puck in her pads.

It wasn't until four minutes left in the game when Tigers player Elizabeth MacArthur tied it up for the squad. Lisa Maclean, who appeared on the score sheet several times throughout the night, assisted MacArthur's goal.

The Tigers would then pull ahead with just under two minutes remaining in the game with a goal by Lisa Maclean. Maclean finished the game with one goal, two assists and a plus three rating – a stellar night for the Tigers captain.

Moncton pulled their goalie and called a time out with thirty seconds remaining in the battle but it did not seem to be enough as Tigers player Courtney Sheedy sealed the deal with an empty net goal. Final score 4-2 Tigers.

TheSubway Player of the Game was Tiger forward Lisa Maclean.

The Aigles Bleues next game will be tomorrow on the road against StFX. Puck drops at 2 pm.

The Tigers next game is their Pink the Rink breast cancer awareness game Saturday October 29th against the STU Tommies. The game will be held at the Halifax Forum and will start at 7 pm.
