Tigers continue playoff push with 4-1 win over St. Thomas

(Halifax, NS) On Friday night the Dalhousie Tigers beat the St. Thomas Tommies 4-1 in AUS men's hockey action at the Halifax Forum. Tanner Williams continued his strong play netting two goals.

Williams banged home a goal 6:34 into the first period putting the Tigers up 1-0. Myles McGurty fed Williams who was left alone in front of the Tommies net. Tyson Teichmann made the initial save but he managed to find the back of the net on his rebound.
Andrew Wigginton extended his point streak to five games after redirecting a shot from Fabian Walsh giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the first period.
St. Thomas forward, Colin Martin was rewarded with a penalty shot in the final minutes of the second period but could not beat Corbin Boes.
In the third period Brendan Childerley picked up a loose puck in the slot and fired a shot top shelf beating Boes, bring the Tommies within one goal.
St. Thomas pressed late with the extra attacker on the ice but could not beat Boes who made 30 saves on the night.
Andrew Rieder and Tanner Williams added two empty net goals giving the Tigers a 4-1 win.
It was a crucial two points for the Tigers who now trail UdeM by just two points for the final playoff spot. The Tigers (8-13-4) will host UdeM (10-13-2) tomorrow night at 7pm while the Tommies (2-22-1) will travel to StFX (16-6-3).
