X-Women fall to Hurricanes in exhibition play

Charlottetown, PE – The X-Women basketball team wrapped up play at the Holland College Invitational tournament with a 65-61 loss to the host Holland College squad on Sunday afternoon. They previously dropped a 72-60 decision to St. Foye on Saturday.

The X-Women held a 16-10 lead after the first quarter but the Hurricanes pulled ahead to go into halftime with a slight 34-32 advantage.

The X-Women outscored the Hurricanes 22-16 in the third quarter but lost the game in the fourth, scoring only seven points as the Hurricanes pulled out the 65-61 win.

Holland College was led by Darcy Zinck who scored 23 points, Jayla Verney added 18 and Tyleigha Nelson scored 9 and hauled in 13 rebounds.

For the X-Women, freshman center Katie MacIntosh scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds. Leah Fahey netted 8 points off the bench and Chelsea Provo scored 7.

The X-Women next see action on Tuesday, October 11th when they will host the Nipissing Lakers from the OUA conference in a 7:00 pm in an exhibition game at the StFX Oland Centre.
