Sea-Hawks mount late comeback to get by Acadia

(St. John's, NL) The Memorial Sea-Hawks topped the Acadia Axemen 86-83 in AUS Men'sBasketball action on Saturday night at The Field House.

The first half was a tight defensive battle as Memorial held a 14-10 first quarter lead, with Acadia taking control in the second quarter and taking a 33-32 lead into the half.

The Axemen got 10 first half points from leading scorer Kyle Arseneault, while Erik Nissenchipped in with 7 points. Vasilije Curcic led Memorial with 8 points and Noel Moffatt had 6points at the break.

The second half was a completely different game as both teams pushed the pace and filledthe hoop with ease. Nick De Palma caught fire for the Axemen in the second half. He went4 of 5 from the three-point line in the third quarter and finished the game 5 of 13 for 17points. Kyle Areseneault once again led the way for Acadia with 19 points on 8 for 17shooting.

The Sea-Hawks got a great performance from sixth man Daniel Gordon, who finished thegame 10 of 16 and a team high 23 points. Noel Moffatt was the second leading scorer with15, while three other Sea-Hawks scored in double figures.

Acadia took a 7-point lead with three minutes to go, but Memorial battled back late andmanaged to take a 1-point lead with 27.9 seconds in the game. The Sea-Hawks then strungtogether back-to-back defensive stops to close out the game.

Teams are back in action tomorrow at 1pm at the Field House.
