(Halifax, N.S.)—Day three of the Thunder Selects Holiday Classic Women's Tournament concluded Friday, with the Homburg Centre hosting three afternoon games. The highlight of the day was Acadia's 81-70 win over the U Sports No. 2 ranked Carleton Ravens.
McMaster vs Saint Mary's
In the noon matinee, the McMaster Marauders defeated the host SMU Huskies 72-67.
Danielle Boiago (Hamilton, Ont.) paced all scorers with 24 points in the McMaster win, while teammates Rachel Holmes (Ancaster, Ont.) had 15 and Claire Kenney (Gananoque, Ont.) added 10.
McMaster jumped out to a 22-16 lead after 10 minutes and took a 14-13 second quarter score into the locker room for a 36-29 halftime lead.
A 17-11 third quarter score saw the Marauders hold a 53-40 lead after thirty minutes.
Saint Mary's outscored McMaster 27-19 in the final frame and the Marauders held on for the 72-67 win.
Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse (Montreal, Que,) had 16 points for Saint Mary's and Shanieka Wood (Ajax, Ont.) added 14.
Halifax natives Angelina Carvery and Courtney Cain-Nordin chipped in 13 points apiece.
Queen's vs Dalhousie
The 2 p.m. game saw the Queen's University Gaels defeat the Dalhousie Tigers 77-48.
Gemma Bullard (Guelph, Ont.) had 13 points for Queen's while teammates Marianne Alarie (Sudbury, Ont.) and Robyn Pearson (Toronto, Ont.) each had 12 points in the win.
Dal led 17-14 after 10 minutes and Queen's used a 12-6 second quarter score to take a 26-23 halftime lead.
Queen's outscored Dal 30-10 in the third quarter and led 56-33 after thirty minutes and a 21-15 final frame for Queen's saw the Gaels win 77-48.
Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, N.B.) paced Dal with 11 points while Robertha Charles (Montreal, Que.) had nine and Claire Hickman (St. John's, N.L.) seven.
Carleton vs Acadia
The Acadia Axewomen handed the U Sports No. 2 ranked Carleton Ravens a 81-70 loss in the 4 p.m. game.
Stephanie Carr (Stittsville, Ont.) had 18 points off the Ravens' bench and Catherine Traer (Chelsea, Que.) had 14 and Cynthia Dupont (Waterville, Que.) 12 points.
Acadia led 19-17 after 10 minutes and Carleton's 19-18 second quarter score trimmed the Axewomen lead to 37-36.
The Axewomen outscored the Ravens 22-13 after three quarters and took a 10-point lead, 59-49 headed into the final frame.
A 22-21 fourth quarter score saw Acadia win 81-70.
Chanel Smith (Halifax, N.S.) had 32 points for Acadia while Paloma Anderson (Phoenix, Arizona) added 12 and Alyson Fulton (Merigomish, N.S.) had eight. Anderson and Smith were named to the Tournament All-Star team for their three day performances.
McMaster finished the tournament 3-0, Acadia 2-1, with Saint Mary's, Carleton and Queen's all at 1-2. Dalhousie went 0-3.
