Rachelle Coward drops 24 points to guide CIS No. 4 SMU 75-48 over UNB

(Halifax, NS)—The CIS No. 4 SMU Huskies women's basketball team improved to 12-1 in AUS play Friday night with a 75-48 victory over the UNB Varsity Reds from the Homburg Centre.

SMU's Coward (Dartmouth, NS) led all scorers with 24 points and added three assists on 10 for 19 shooting from the floor.

A close opening quarter saw SMU hold an 18-17 lead.

Saint Mary's outscored UNB 14-10 in the second frame and took a 32-27 lead at half.

Exploding for 32 points in the third quarter, the Huskies controlled the score board 64-42.

The final ten minutes saw SMU use an 11-6 quarter score and win 75-48.

Grace Wade (Moncton, NB) paced the Varsity Reds with 21 points and pulled in five rebounds while Laura Kaye (Fredericton, NB) chipped in eight points for UNB.

The Varsity Reds drop to 9-6 and sit two points behind 9-5 CBU.

Laura Langille (Bedford, NS) had 10 points for SMU and Espoo, Finland native Emma Valikoski added nine points. 

Saint Mary's had 16 steals in the victory and are eight points with two games in hand over 15-0 Acadia.

Both teams return to action at the Homburg Centre, 6 pm Saturday in Halifax.
