Axewomen remain undefeated with win over X-Women

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – In front of a near capacity crowd at Acadia's War Memorial Gymnasium, the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked Acadia Axewomen improved to 10-0 with a convincing 89-42 win over the StFX X-Women.

As one of only two teams in the nation who are still undefeated in regular season play, the Axewomen played inspired after Wednesday's slow start against the X-Women in Antigonish.

Chanel Smith led the Axewomen in scoring with a game-high 22 points, while Paloma Anderson and Haley McDonald added 15 points each.

Out to a 29-8 lead after the opening quarter, the Axewomen kept the pedal to the metal with a 24-10 second quarter and 53-18 halftime lead.

Outplayed again, 19-5 in the third frame, the X-Women put together a better performance by posting a 19-17 final quarter score. Kendra Smith had a team-high 11 points off the bench.

StFX gave up 33 turnovers and the top team in the country capitalized on them with 32 points from the steals.

Acadia was 34% from the three-point line, but also worked on their inside game with 24 points in the paint.

With the loss StFX drops to 0-10 and will head to Saint Mary's this coming Wednesday for a 4-point game, while the Axewomen host UNB (6-5) and UPEI (4-6) this Friday and Saturday respectively – each game worth 4-points in the standings.
