Hawks Earn Another Home Sweep

(St. John's, NL.) – A 35-point fourth quarter helped the Memorial Seahawks edge the UPEI Panthers 97-90 on Sunday afternoon at the Field House.

Vasilije Curcic led all Sea-Hawks with 26 points, while guard Daniel Gordon poured in 20 points off the bench to help guide the home side to victory.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with both sides having no problems scoring the basketball.  Memorial would go into the break with a 47-46 advantage.

Tyler Scott was once again a shining star for the Panthers. Scott led all scorers with 32 points, while also grabbing 7 rebounds and registering 2 steals. Lorenzo Parker finished with a double-double in the loss, providing 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds.  Samy Mohamed led the second unit with 14 points in the loss.

The Sea-Hawks would go into the final quarter down 67-62. In the final frame Memorial put the ball into the hands of their 5th year big man Curcic, who finished the quarter with 12 points and was a perfect 7 for 7 from the charity stripe.  Greg Manuel provided some key scoring for the Sea-Hawks down the stretch, scoring 8 points in the final quarter on perfect shooting from both the field and the free throw line.

The Sea-Hawks head to Wolfville, NS for their final two regular season games of the season versus the Acadia Axemen.  The Panthers are home to the Cape Breton Capers next Sunday.
