Huskies drop 4-1 to visiting X-Men

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Francis Xavier X-Men defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 4-1 in AUS men's hockey action Wednesday night at the Halifax Forum. The X-Men jumped out to an early lead when Nathan Pancel (Ottawa, ON) converted on a one timer in the slot at 2:53 to make it 1-0. St.FX added to the lead when Pancel got his second of the game when he scored from the slot after a Saint Mary's clearing attempt took a funny bounce off a stanchion right to his stick at 10:53 to make the score 2-0 after the first period.

In the second period, the StFX kept it going when Trey Lewis (Aldouane, NB) tallied from the top of the circle when his high, fluttering shot found its way into the net at 0:43 to increase the lead to 3-0 after 40 minutes.

The X-Men added some insurance in the third, when Mark Tremaine (Dartmouth, NS) potted a marker from in close at 10:18 to make it 4-0. The Huskies got one back when Steven Beyers (Orangeville, ON) scored from in close at 15:30 to bring the game to its final score of 4-1.

The Huskies outshot the X-Men 41-25. Drew Owsley (Lethbridge, AB) made 40 saves to get the win for the X-Men. Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) stopped 21 shots in net for the Huskies.

The X-Men are back in action this Friday at home against the Acadia Axemen at 7:00 pm. The Huskies' next game is next Wednesday when they are visitors of Dalhousie at the Halifax Forum.
