MONCTON – Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues contained the Dalhousie University Tigers attack at the end and came up with a 4-3 win in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey game, Friday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.  

The score was 1-1 at the end of the first period on goals by Tara Morning, for the Tigers and Katryne Villeneuve (Jennifer Arsenault), for the Blue and Gold, at 17:50. Dominique Bérubé (unassisted) and Katherine Dubuc (Marie-Pier Corriveau, Chantal Beauchamp) gave the local team a 3-1 lead in the second. Keana Oshowy got the visitors to within one goal at the half way mark of the third. Sarah-Ève Mailhot (unassisted) was able to offer Moncton a two goal lead a few minutes later. Jesse Rietveld, on a 6-4 power play, gave the Tigers hope with her team's third goal with 50 seconds left to play. The Aigles closed all holes for the win. Gabrielle Forget handled 27 pucks for the win and Jessica Severeyns, 37 in the loss, including 13 in the middle stanza and 12 in each of the other two. Moncton was 0 for 2 on the power play and Dalhousie, 1 for 5.   

''We played well, except in the first period where we did have a tough time,'' Moncton coach Denis Ross, said. "We were dominant in the second and the number of shots shows it. Dalhousie worked hard without letting go. Sunday against Saint Mary's, we are going there for a big win." Subway player of the game and forward Kathrine Dubuc said "we did compete well tonight. We still need to progress on some things. On the ice, we did have the momentum and chances. We were nervous at the end with a one goal lead and we were a bit scared. But we did come out with the win."  

Sunday, the Blue and Gold travels to Halifax for a second match-up with Saint Mary's University Huskies (2-0-0=4pts, 2nd place). The Huskies blanked Moncton 2-0, last Sunday. Sabrina Lebrun will be in nets on Sunday. The Tigers head to St. Thomas tomorrow at 7pm. Both games can be viewed on AUStv.ca.
