(Halifax, NS)--The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Acadia Axewomen 86-61 in their season home opener, Saturday evening in AUS women's basketball action from the Homburg Centre.
Jenny Lewis (Fall River, NS) paced the Huskies with a game-high 20 points in the win.
Saint Mary's led 25-24 in the second quarter before Acadia went on a 14-8 run to close out the quarter and saw the Axewomen lead by five at the half, 38-33.
The Huskies outscored Acadia 24-11 in the third quarter and led 57-44 after thirty minutes.
The Huskies continued their scoring streak in the final frame and used a 29-17 fourth quarter score to win 86-61.
Saint Mary's improves to 2-0 while Acadia falls to 0-2.
Up next for Acadia is a visit to 1-1 Cape Breton University November 11, while SMU hosts 1-1 Dalhousie Wednesday, November 9th at the Homburg Centre.
Tip-off for both games is 6 p.m.
