(Halifax, NS) On Friday afternoon at the Scotiabank Centre the Dalhousie Tigers beat the StFX  X-Men 4-1 on Varsity Showdown Weekend. Corbin Boes had a great performance in the Tigers net with 39 saves.

Holden Cook scored the lone goal of the first period at 11:34 on the power play for the X-Men. Kristoff Kontos found Cook wide open in the slot who wristed a shot top corner past Boes.

The X-Men outshot the Tigers 15-7 in the frame.

After one period the Tigers trailed 1-0.

AUS scoring leader Eric Locke was rewarded with a penalty shot half way through the second period after being tripped by Jesse Lussier but Boes stood tall, keeping the deficit at one.

On a scramble play in front of the StFX net JP Harvey whacked home a bouncing puck to tie the game up at 1-1. Tanner Williams and Jackson Playfair were credited with the helpers.

The two teams headed into the dressing room all tied up at 1-1.

Mike Evelyn gave the Tigers their first lead of the game early on in the third period. Evelyn walked out from the corner and beat a sliding Brandon Hope five hole.

Andrew Wigginton extended his point streak to four games and gave the Tigers a commanding 3-1 lead with just over seven minutes to play. Wigginton grabbed a rebound off a shot from Alex Cote and had an open net to shoot on.

Jackson Playfair added an empty net goal in the dying seconds.

Tanner Williams was named the First Star with three assists.

It was a crucial two points for the Tigers who now sit two points out of a playoff spot. Dalhousie (7-13-4) will host the St. Thomas Tommies (2-19-1)  Friday, February at the Halifax Forum. The X-Men (15-5-3) are back in action tomorrow night when they take on Saint Mary's (13-7-2).
