Sea-Hawks earn weekend sweep over Tigers

The Memorial Sea-Hawks completed a weekend sweep of the Dalhousie Tigers with a 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon at King George V Soccer Field in St. John's.

Hannah Rivkin (St. John's, NL) opened the scoring for the Sea-Hawks off a corner kick in the 9th minute.  Sea-Hawks rookie, Nicole Torraville (St. John's, NL), found the back of the net for the first time this season later in the half, followed by a marker by Jane Pope (St. John's, NL).  Those three goals would put the Sea-Hawks up 3-0 going into the half.

Meagan McKenna (Halifax, NS) led the way for the Tigers by registering three shots, while Taylor Goodwin (Hammonds Plains, NS) finished the day with two shots.

Sea-Hawks coach Mike Power was pleased with the teams opening weekend performance, but believes there are a variety of areas his team needs to show improvement.

"We are pleased with the result and the positive start to the season. It's great to have your big guns firing right away. However, there are still some areas we need to see improvement and we will remain grounded as we progress through the schedule."

Nicole Torraville was the Subway Player of the Game from the Sea-Hawks by registering one goal on two shots.

The Sea-Hawks are on the road next weekend, with a Saturday game vs. UNB (1:30pm NST) followed by a Sunday match-up with Moncton (1:30pm NST).  Both games are available live on AUStv.ca.
