Axewomen sweep Aigles Bleues to win first game of 2023-24

MONCTON – In a thrilling volleyball showdown between Moncton and Acadia on Friday night, it was Acadia who claimed a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-23, 25-20) over their opponents.

Leading the Axewomen in the match, Jenna Lake (Conception Bay South, NL) was the star of the game for Acadia, recording 13 kills with a remarkable .458 kill percentage. Lake's offensive performance was complemented by 9 digs. Allison Van Zeumeren (Brampton, ON) also played a crucial role for Acadia, contributing 10 kills, three aces and two block assists, amassing a total of 14 points.

Kyana Sivret (Riviere-a-la-Truite, NB) emerged as the standout player for Moncton, leading her team with eight kills and an impressive kill percentage of .273. Defensively, Sivret contributed with four digs. Cassidy Martin (Dieppe, NB) showcased her playmaking abilities, tallying 16 assists and two aces. Additionally, she demonstrated her defensive prowess with 6 digs and 1 block assist, amassing 5.5 points.

Despite Moncton's efforts, Acadia secured the win with a dominant performance across all three sets. The players of the game were Sivret for Moncton and Daragh McIntosh (Ottawa, ON) for Acadia, acknowledging their exceptional contributions to their respective teams' performances.

The two teams meet again on Saturday afternoon on Stu Aberdeen Court at 2 p.m.
