Kemar Alleyne guides Huskies to 97-92 win over Axemen

(Halifax, NS)—The SMU Huskies defeated the Acadia Axemen 97-92 Friday night in AUS basketball action from the Homburg Centre.

Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) led the Huskies and all scorers with 26 points, pulled in nine rebounds and was a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line.

The Huskies improved to 7-8 and sit tied with 6-10 Memorial for the sixth and final AUS play-off spot with 14 points on the year.

Quispamsis, New Brunswick native Erik Nissen paced the Axemen with 24 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Acadia falls to 10-7 and sits fourth in AUS play with 24 points.

The Axemen led 28-14 after the opening quarter.

Saint Mary's used a 27-24 second quarter score to trim the Acadia lead 52-41 at half.

SMU outscored Acadia 28-21 in the third quarter and trailed the Axemen 73-69 after thirty minutes.

Saint Mary's continued their scoring streak in the final frame, outscoring Acadia 28-19 in the fourth quarter, winning 97-92.

Kyle Arseneault (Fredericton, NB) netted 21 points on 5-8 shooting from the three-point line for Acadia while teammates A.J. Simmonds (Dartmouth, NS) and Shaquille Smith (North Preston, NS) chipped in 18 and 14 points apiece.

Osman Barrie's (Ottawa, ON) double-double stat line for SMU read 24 points and 10 rebounds while Theon Reefer (Toronto, ON) and Brian Rouse (Mississauga, ON) finished with 17 and 16 points respectively.

Acadia`s off for a week and hosts third-place 9-7 UNB (24 points) February 19^th.

The Huskies host fifth-place 7-8 CBU (18 points) Saturday evening at 8 pm in a four-point game.
